Abstract
WHO¡¯s healthy cities program has been introduced for 20years. Currently total 18 Korean cities became members of the alliance for healthy cities
It may be an odd idea if someone tries to consider the foundation of healthy cities at the time of action. However, it is also undeniable fact that it¡¯s ground can only lead us to the effective ways of plans and actions. With full understanding of the ground such as related concepts and principles, the goal of healthy cities program could be successfully achievable. The requested basics are concepts of health, public health, health for all. and health promotion. The attributes of healthy cities also need to be understand. That is, urbanization, diversity, preparation, comprehensiveness, substantiality, innovation, process, long-term plans, intersectoral action, partnership, community participation, healthy public policy and so on
The social model of health and health promotion must be applied for healthy cities program. The program as a public health movement follows interdisciplinary team approach with its enabling, mediating and advocating roles. A key issue is that the program is a comprehensive package program with several action areas. To be a successful program, public health leadership is essential
All the terms used for the healthy cities program are not simple and easy to understand. Those are rather abstract and philosophical. Thus, the deep understanding of those terms and insight in relation to the healthy cities are emphasized for the development of healthy cities program
